LOCATED ON THE EDGE OF SAN DIEGO’S GASLAMP & CORE FINANCIAL DISTRICTS, Owl Drug Co - Social Eating House is an elevated brew pub serving American comfort food, sophisticated cocktails and 28 rotating beers on tap. Stop in and raise a glass at downtown’s newest neighborhood pub and eatery, which is open weekdays for lunch and dinner 11 a.m. to midnight and open 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday. The only venue in downtown offering karaoke every Friday and Saturday night, as well as during bottomless mimosa brunch on Sunday beginning mid February. Featuring an award-winning brewhouse onsite, Owl Drug Co. serves up craft beers on tap while providing an environment where both residents and tourists feel welcome.
Officially opening in late January of 2019, the space anchors the Northeast corner of 6th Street and Broadway Ave. Having undergone design updates, as well as a newly created menu, the venue also boasts a new (old) name, which serves as a homage to the building’s history. The brew pub invites guests to enjoy a menu of mostly shareable pub food, such as pizzas, classic dips and hot sandwiches, which pair well with their wide variety of craft beers and cocktails. The space remains home to the existing operating 15 barrel brewhouse and will be led by award-winning brewer, Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Cervantes of Artisanal Brewing Collective, whose fresh brews will fill a number of the 28 taps on draft.
Built in 1908 and designated a Historical Building in 2001, the structure was dubbed the Colonel Fletcher Building after famed San Diego real estate developer and California State Senator, Colonel Ed Fletcher. The first floor was originally home to Owl Drug Company, which then featured an apothecary, bowling lanes, and a cafe. Now filling that space, the main dining area features soaring 20-foot ceilings, warm wood bar height tables and metallic accents, boasting a hefty 200 person capacity. An added bonus is the private perch lofted above, which can accommodate another 50 revelers for private events and will be open with an additional satellite bar on weekend nights and during popular televised sporting events.
